Our first final and after a three all draw with Tenbury
in our last league game made me think we could match
them on this one off game. A ten o’clock kick off saw
the sun shining and the temperature was well up.
However, the boys seemed keen to get into the game and
the football was well up to the standard shown between
the two sides this season. However, Tenbury opened the
scoring after the ball was not cleared and Tenbury
slotted the ball home. Onny battled on But Tenbury
scored a second. Then with the introduction of the "pacey"
Cameron Fanning, we got back in the game Cameron scoring
twice to level it up with two fine strikes. All the boys
battled their hearts out. However, it was Tenbury who
took the trophy with two more goals to win it 2-4.
Disappointing However, I am proud of all my players.
Well done let us hope for a final next season.

We visited Tenbury for our last league game of the season
and this usually turned out to be the toughest of test’s for
the Eagles. Although we have not beaten Steve’s boys in two
season of competitive football. We went there in great form
with the eagles looking hungry. We kicked off and both sides
played the ball around then things broke for Onny a through
ball to Cameron Fanning saw him run at the Tenbury defence
and out of nothing released a shot up and over the keeper to
bulge the back of the net ‘one nil’. Then a few minutes
later Joseph Williams popped up to slot past the keeper ‘two
nil’.
Things were looking good at this stage then just before the
break; Danny Bradley picks up the ball in midfield and runs
at their defence to unleash his shot straight past the
keeper, ‘three nil, at half time.
At the break I
tried to tell the boys the job was only half done and with
Tenbury changing their side around. They had one goal back
with in the first minute. A second and then the equalizer,
all with in a five minute spell. The boys were disappointed,
but kept up the battle and never gave up. Tenbury pushed and
pushed but could not get past the Onny rear guard again the
usual solid display from Nathan. Charlie Gould clearing off
the line to keep it all square. Mark Bull and William Thomas
pushing the midfield forward chances still came our way, the
ball just would not go in. Then Tenbury broke again shot at
goal, but it was denied by a fine full stretch save from
Peter Sutton, one of many on the day. As the final whistle
approached the ball was pushed through once again to Joseph
Williams who was put off balance by two Tenbury defenders,
The ball free and open, Joseph Williams jumped up to run on
to what would have been a one on one with the keeper only to
hear the shrill of the whistle bringing the game to an end
with the score three all. A great game played in a great
spirit. Well done all

This should have
been our last League game of the season, but with a
rearranged game against Tenbury to come, the boys needed to
keep playing to the high standard to which we have come to
see in recent weeks. On our last meeting with Presteigne,
they beat us big style. Therefore, this was our chance to
show we were not an easy touch, and did they go out and show
it yes they did. A very hard fought game was won by
the whole Onny side producing good passing football hard,
but fair tackling and the ability not to retaliate when some
late challenges went flying in. A special mention to the
Referee (Jack Watkins) who was excellent. The Whole side
deserved a mention for their efforts. However, it was Mark
Bull who took the high fives with a tremendous hat trick to
give us the 3-0 win.

Onny + Eagles V Ludlow. Friendly
game played 06/04/08
After Last weeks win against Ludlow, a free weekend brought
us together again, for a friendly. A game played in a good
spirit Onny came out of the blocks like a train. Mark Bull
opened the scoring with a fine finish and went on to put on
a solid display in midfield. Joe Williams on the day just
failed to get on the score sheet, but he put in some good
work to support others around him. Cameron Fanning had a
great game scoring six goals in all. Solomon Barker scoring
for the second game in a row, also Charlie Gould getting on
the score sheet and very unlucky not to get two with a great
flick header in the second half. Danny Bradley got the final
goal with a marauding run through the midfield to finish
with his left foot, making the final score 11-0

Back to business after the Easter break, with a visit to our
neighbours Ludlow. Onny boys always get up for this game and
some good football was played by both sides, but it was the
team in green that opened the scoring with some good work
around the box, Cameron Fanning finished with a shot past
the diving keeper. On the right side of midfield, William
Thomas put in some fine defensive work and several quality
passes to put Ludlow under pressure from the in running Onny
players. Ludlow held on well and with some good saves from
their keeper, Onny went into the break with just one goal to
show for some good passing football. After the break, the
introduction of fresh faces saw a fair bit of attacking play
came down the left side Solomon Barker put in a fine display
with some great crosses and a great finish to a passing move
to put Onny two up. If it was not for the towns’ keeper,
Ashley Pardoe the score could have been much higher
especially when Charlie Gould hooked the ball from over his
shoulder only to see his goal bound effort well saved with a
fine tip over the bar. At the other end, Ludlow also had
chances and with Onny’s keeper Peter Sutton making a
blocking save and then reacting quickest to punch the ball
away from the feet of the Ludlow Players keeping the score
at two nil. Well done boys for a great effort.

Eagles V Coreley North. Game played 24/02/08
(+
Sporting Colts Tournament & Friendly 09/03/08)
I have got a
little behind with our match reports of late for which I
apologise. After the Presteigne game we had a free weekend.
So an invite from Sporting Colts, took us up to Shrewsbury
Sports Village to play in their Tournament on the Astroturf.
The Boys handled them selves very well both on and off the
pitch, we played some great football and made the
quarterfinals, loosing to the eventual runners up Sporting
Colts.
The Following week we entertained Coreley North, at the
Burway a great game played in a good spirit. Mark Bull
opened the scoring then two from Joseph Williams another
from Mark Bull and a single goal in reply half time came
with us four - one up.
In the second half, Cameron Fanning came on to make it six
and Solomon Barker added another, Mark Bull came back on to
replace Joseph Williams to score two more and finally
Coreley got their second with a breakaway goal to end the
game 8-2.
This weekend we played a friendly with Onny Tigers under 8’s
with the Tigers stepping up to seven a side and a bigger
pitch and playing boys who are a year older. You could see
the found it difficult to cope with the speed in which my
boys passed the ball, and their strength in the tackles, But
give the Tigers credit they kept battling on and never gave
up no matter what the score. Liam Dovey Did very well in
goal, as did Chadd Woodfield who seemed everywhere on the
pitch. Therefore, a big well done to Jon Roberts’ side for
whom the future look’s very bright. To my boy’s who handled
themselves very well and scored some fine goals keep up the
hard work

Eagles V Presteigne Colts. Game played 04/02/08
Sometimes things do not go to plan and Sunday’s game
was a prime example. Last time we played Presteigne the sides
were very even and we finished the game all square. This time
was totally different, a chilly windy morning saw the boys
looking cold, as the saying goes it’s the same for both sides.
Within the first minute, we were one nil down and it got worse
as the game went on. Soon Joseph Williams had to be substituted
after a knock. Then we failed to match Presteigne’s hard work
and found ourselves further behind. Most of the players were far
from their best, so we will put this down as an off day. I am
hoping with some hard work we can turn this little blip in our
performances around, because we do not want the season to end
with disappointment, after such a great first half of the
season.
Final Score 0 -8 one of the heaviest defeats in 3 seasons.

Eagles V Leominster Colts. Game played 03/02/08
A bitterly cold & windy Sunday afternoon, both teams
contributed to an entertaining match, Eagles produced some good
football, with plenty of passing and as a result had a lot of
goal scoring chances. Our first goal was an excellent shot from
Louis Pound from the left hand side of the penalty box. Chances
came and went for both sides with Morgan Millard excellent in
defence. A second goal arrived before half time from Jake
Wilkes. The score being 2 - 0 at half time. With the wind in
Leominster's favour in the second half they pulled a goal back &
pressed hard for an equaliser with several chances going wide.
The third goal arrived with a shot from Jake which was parried
by the keeper, the ball fell kindly to Louis who then went on to
score his second goal .From the kick off Leominster pressed &
were rewarded with their second goal of the afternoon, This
produced a tense final eight minutes, until Eagles scored a
fourth goal from a shot by Elliot Smith.
The final score was 4 - 2 in what was a keenly fought contest.

Eagles V Orleton. Game played 26/01/08
A Visit to Orleton on Saturday morning saw the Eagles
back to winning ways. As always, we were greeted with a very
warm welcome from the team in orange. Straight from the kick off
Onny piled on the pressure and it was not long before Nathan
sent in a shot, which clipped an Orleton player as it went into
the net. Then Charlie Gould popped up to slot home the second.
Orleton kept their heads up and got back into the game with a
strike that beat the keeper at his near post making it 2-1. Onny
were not fazed by this passing the ball Charlie Gould who jinked
his way into the box where he was brought down to win a penalty.
Up stepped Nathan to smash home the spot kick with great
maturity. Orleton got another goal back with a long-range
effort. With two goals from Mark Bull and one from under the
weather, Cameron Fanning saw the score increase again. After the
break Joseph Williams came on to score two goals one a fine
effort nutmeging the defender and firing home giving the keeper
no chance. Also in the second half, Nathan Herdsfield scored to
claim an excellent hat trick, with hard battling Danny Bradley
putting in some great tackles and a special mention for Solomon
Barker, who had his best game in an Onny shirt with good tackles
and some impressive forward play to cap off a good all-round
performance.

Eagles V Stretton Red Rovers. Game played 20/01/08
After Last Weeks, narrow defeat to Coreley South. We
came up against a superb Stretton side. Their all round game was
just a pinch a head of my boys. The two opening goals for Rovers
were both scored from distance with excellent shots into the top
of the net. Onny battled on but could not get through a very
stout defence. Throughout the remainder of the game Stretton
increased their score by another four goals. Due mainly to my
players not marking tight enough. Apart from that, Onny did
battle well with Cameron Fanning making some good runs towards
the Stretton goal. Danny Bradley and Nathan putting in some
great tackles and clearances. Finally, a big well done to Peter
Sutton in the Onny goal who made some terrific saves to keep the
score to six. Therefore, it was not our day we can play a lot
better. So let us see if we can get back to playing how I know
we can

Eagles V Coreley. Game played 13/01/08
This season has seen our fortunes turned around
against a very good Coreley south. We have played them twice
already this season and managing to beat them on both occasions.
My players now have the belief they can do it again in what
usually turns out to be a very close game and Sunday was no
exception, with some of the best battling football I have seen
from my side. They showed great character to come back from 3-1
down to go into the break all square. Two minor mistakes saw
Coreley leading but Joseph Williams pull one back with a fine
strike. Then Coreley got another goal. The Boys kept pressing
forward and Cameron Fanning shot past the keeper. Joseph
Williams who was producing some of his best football scored to
level it at the break.
In second half with Onny pressing forward Joseph Williams got
his first hat trick of the season, But Coreley were soon level
again, end to end stuff with good all round football from both
sides. Brave goal keeping from Peter Sutton diving at the flying
boots to collect the ball in his area. Then up popped Mark Bull
to knock in Onny’s fifth goal, with the game still in balance it
was Coreley who pushed on and soon scored the equalizer and then
what turned out to be the winner. Well Done Coreley and to my
boys for your great effort in one of the best games I have been
involved in as a Coach.

Eagles V Wigmore Warriors. Game played 06/01/08
A crisp Sunday morning saw Onny back to winning ways,
to start the second half of the season, after the Christmas
break. Onny went for it straight from the start with a shot from
Charlie Gould going close with a shot on goal in the opening
minutes. After having nearly a month off, Onny’s passing and
finishing looked rusty and with Wigmore battling hard for every
ball, the half time whistle sounded with all square at 0-0.
As the second half started we sprang into life, from the Wigmore
kick off Cameron Fanning won the ball and with an amazing run
through the defence he slotted home the opening goal. Mark
Bull’s goal followed and then Joseph Williams’ and a second from
Cameron Fanning who scored with a rare headed goal. William
Thomas rounded off a solid performance with a fine strike to
score a well-deserved goal. Wigmore’s goal came from a free kick
outside the box, which he struck with power and accuracy into
the goal past the leaping keeper. Good results for Onny with a
5-1 win to start the New Year
