Onny + Tigers V Orleton. Cup Game played 16/12/07
It was a damp and cold Sunday morning but both teams came on in the first half with spirit and we saw some great football played in this cup game. Rory Huntbach scored for Onny and with great teamwork by Rhys Williams, George Small who scored 2 and Chadd Woodfield scoring 1 Onny took the lead.
Orleton came back fighting with 2 goals from Rory Schippers, but with good goal keeping from Liam Dovey and great defending from Callum Roberts and James Wilburn Onny kept the lead. Rory went on to score another 2 goals for Onny and when the final whistle blew the score was Onny Tigers 6 - Orleton 2.
Winning this game meant that Onny+ Tigers finished top of their group. Well done boys and good luck for the finals!

Onny + Tigers V Tenbury South. Game played 15/12/07
Last Saturday Onny Tigers travelled to Orleton to play a seven-a-side friendly against the former Castle F.C. The squad was split in half & those not involved in this game will have their opportunity at the same venue on Sunday 20th January.
Onny lined up with Nathan Baker making a rare appearance in goal. Brett Thomas & Owen Holder made up the defence. George Austin made his Onny debut in midfield with Jordan Angell to the left & Lewis Watkins to the right. Stewart Booker completed the squad being promoted to the role of striker.
From the first whistle Onny proceeded to pass the ball around well & find themselves space off it. The first half ended with Onny 5-0 ahead but it could have easily been 5-2 but for some brave goal keeping.
The team was switched around in the second half with George & Stewart in defence & Brett moving into midfield. Despite this, Onny continued to pass the ball well & further goals were to follow, notably from Brett relishing the chance to push forward & bulldozing his way through on a couple of occasions, George making his Onny debut & Stewart in an unfamiliar role up front. Owen, Jordan & Lewis also added to the goal tally. To their credit, Orleton kept their spirits up throughout & continued to press forward but that consolation goal was to remain elusive.
An enjoyable & friendly game was once again had by all which was played in a good spirit and thanks go to Andy & the lads from Orleton for providing us with a game on our week off from league fixtures & we look forward to playing again in January with the other half of the squad.

Onny + Eagles V Presteigne Colts. Game played 09/12/07
This was the first time we have met the colts, so I was a little unsure what to expect. From reports I have received I was told the colts were a big physical side and that is what they were. Again Onny found themselves one goal down in the first half, but they held their heads high and battled very very hard to get back into the game, with several free kicks in dangerous positions. Nathan went very close to an equaliser, an on form goalie keeping out his efforts and a colts defender heading away a goal bound shot. Then up popped Cameron Fanning to slot the ball home past the keeper after a strong run from midfield. The Second half was much the same with several free kicks again given away by Presteigne but Onny failed to capitalise. Some good football was played and both keepers were called into action, but no one could put the ball away for the winner. Well done boys for keeping your heads up under some difficult circumstances. Keep up the great work and have a good Christmas and be ready to push on with the second half of the season.
Steve, the boys and I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a great 2008

Onny + Tigers V Tenbury South. Game played 08/12/07
Last Saturday probably saw one of the coldest & wettest mornings so far this season. After heavy rains the previous few days, the Onny pitch was in very good condition & the referee was happy for the game to proceed.
Onny started the game with only 10 players after the late withdrawal of Khalid Al-Houbani due to illness. His absence was clear for all to see with 2 long balls through the middle catching out the Onny defence within the first 5 minutes. Tenbury raced into an early 2-0 lead, leaving Onny shell-shocked. However, to their credit & despite the weather, Onny rolled their sleeves up & fought their way back into the game with some good work down the flanks from Rhys Gould & Lewis (I can’t feel my hands) Watkins. The pressure began to tell & after some good passing from Onny. Nathan Baker was on hand to prod the ball home & start the Onny fight back. Onny then scored again soon after, only for it to be ruled offside. Onny now had their tales up & continued to pass the ball around with ease. With 5 minutes to go until half-time Onny now in total control of the game, Onny got their reward with a much deserved equaliser to ensure they went in level at Half-Time. No-one could predict the drama that was about to follow.
During the half-time team talk, the Onny Manager was called out by the referee as the opposing manager wished to speak. The Tenbury Manager informed Onny that his players were cold & wet & close to tears & asked if we could call it an “Honourable Draw”. The Referee pointed out that the pitch was playable & there wasn’t any reason why the game should not continue. Phil Baker (Onny Manager) declined the offer stating that it was the same for both sides & that despite being cold & wet, the Onny players wished to carry on with the match.
The half-time team talk finished with the referee blowing his whistle for the teams to line up for the second half. Cold & wet, Onny bravely walked out onto the pitch & lined up ready to start. However, only half the Tenbury side lined up & the Tenbury Manager came over to Phil Baker & the referee to inform them Tenbury would not be continuing & were therefore forfeiting the points. It was quite a bizarre situation & I can’t recall this ever happening in a junior football match before.
Phil Baker would like to congratulate his team on their bravery in such atrocious weather conditions & for their willingness to want to carry on to try & get a win even after being offered a draw and the chance for an early bath and to get in front of the fire.

Onny + Eagles V Ludlow Town. Game played 02/12/07
This is one game my players seem to get very excited about. Several of the boys playing against schoolmates. Bragging rights are very important and Onny deserved to have them on this occasion. In the first half Onny applied the pressure, which was relentless and produced one goal. However, more goals could and should have been scored but for some wayward shooting and a fine display of goal keeping by Ludlow’s Sam Roberts, he could not do anything about Cameron Fanning’s opener set up by Mark Bull for Cameron to shoot low into the corner. William Thomas was in fine form and was unlucky not to add to the score sheet before the break. Danny Bradley and Nathan stood strong in defence and with the introduction of Joe Williams in the second half helped to increase the score to 2-0. Then another from Cameron Fanning and Joe Williams made it 4-0. It took a breakaway to earn Ludlow a consolation goal. Great work in midfield from Charlie Gould who made a good all-round display. Final Score 4-1. Well done Boys.
A big Well done to Nick Pound and the under 8’s on their first win in the Group Cup round.

Onny + Eagles V Tenbury. Game played 25/11/07
Well what can you say; sometimes you have to be blunt. We just were not good enough on the day. Tenbury are a nut my Boys just cannot crack, But I know they will never give up because that is in the character of every player I have in my team. Tenbury scored with in a matter of minutes, But Onny kept their heads up and tried their hardest to get a goal back. The more they tried Tenbury kept scoring at our end.
The first half ended with us 5-0 down. After the break, Onny seemed to go up a gear or did Tenbury ease up I think the former. From the keeper right through the team to our striker, the boys battled so hard, with some eye catching passing from both sides. Tenbury got another goal to make it six. Onny kept battling on and got a consolation goal near the end scored by Mark Bull. Keep up the good work Boys we’ll get there in the end.

Onny + Tigers V Tenbury North Game played 24/11/07
The tigers started the game well and had forced several good saves from the Tenbury keeper but found themselves trailing by 2 goals to nil from 2 attempts. With the reshuffled defence getting used to there new positions the Tigers settled down and started to attack more frequently managing to score 3 goals by half time, the problem was Tenbury had also broken through 3 times leaving the score at half time Tigers 3 Tenbury 5.
The second half was real end to end stuff and with 5 minutes to go Tenbury had scored another 2 and had forced a couple of top class saves from the Onny Keeper. Onny scored a further 3, the score was now Tigers 6 Tenbury 7, with Onny on the attack hitting the post, the cross bar and everything barring the back of the net (did it cross the line? Didn’t cross the line? The linesman thought not, where’s the Russian lines man when you need him?) Despite all the Tigers efforts the ball just wouldn’t go in and the final score remained Tigers 6 Tenbury 7.
This week’s special mention
This week we lost the services of one of our players James Francis, I would like to take this opportunity to thank James for his contribution to the Onny Tigers football team, he was always a pleasure to coach and will be missed by the club, good luck with the Hockey James.

Onny + Eagles V Coreley South. Brown Clee Cup 18/11/07
A bitter cold and wet Sunday Morning bought, together two evenly matched sides for the semi-final of the Brown Clee Cup. Both sides battled hard in the first half with chances at both ends, with the weather playing its part, small mistakes led to each side loosing the ball frequently. Onny’s opening goal from Danny Bradley, shooting from outside the box, beating the keeper at his near post. Then Cameron Fanning slotted home to make it two nil at half time. Coreley came out strong after the break and with Onny players looking very weathered the pressure eventually told, with Dan Bradley battling for the ball the two lads fell to the ground in the box and the resulting Penalty was fired home. With the Visitors, tails up later in the game Jonathan Price turned Nathan and shot home for the equaliser. I could see all the hard work slipping away. But for Charlie Gould to snatch the winner with extra time looming.

Well done lads for getting to your first final.

Onny + Tigers V Church Stretton Royals Game played 17/11/07
This is one game where the score line really doesn’t reflect the game, with a spirited Onny team making the Royals fight for every ball in every area of the pitch. The first half ended with the Tigers trailing 4-0 with the Stretton goalkeeper and defence making some good saves from the ever attacking Tigers. This type of score line would have demoralised many a team but not the Tigers who came out fighting in the second half as if the score line had been level. With the Tigers having a penalty turned down and Stretton scoring from a corner when the Tigers were still clapping off a substitution to one of our players (didn’t even realise the game had restarted) the second half didn’t start well for the Tigers but despite this the Tigers didn’t give up but carried on pushing for a goal. With 5 minutes to go the Tigers were pressing and decided they no longer needed a goalkeeper and packed the Stretton penalty box with all 11 players, the ball pinged around the Stretton penalty area but unfortunately just wouldn’t go in the net. Final score, Onny Tigers 0 Church Stretton 8 with the Tigers leaving the pitch with their heads held high and to a standing ovation from the proud manager, coach and supporters.
Superb performances were noted in defence from Brett (Tornado) Thomas and Owen (Hurricane) Holder putting in some big tackles and generally using there speed and power to blow away the opposition, they where supported well by Khalid (The Missile) Al-Houbani and Charlie (The Bullet) Barnfield. The Royals broke through on several occasions only to be caught and dispossessed by the Missile and The Bullet.Other superb performances came from: Jordan (Atomic) Angel strengthening the team in every area he was asked to play, after coming back from a serious injury Atomic was full of energy and showed no signs of tiring putting in tackles and passes all over the pitch. In the midfield we had Josh (cruncher) Cleeton, Nathan (bring it on) Baker, Stuart (Braveheart) Booker, James (The Destroyer) Davenport Corrie winning the ball all over the pitch and dribbling around and sometimes straight over the opposition. In Goal (and up front) was Chris (The cat) Mapp making some outstanding saves and pouncing on the loose ball at every opportunity. Down the wings and up front we had James (Formula 1) Francis, Lewis (whirlwind) Watkins, Rhys (The Rocket) Gould and Miles (Ferrari) Ferguson all using there explosive pace and silky skills when going forward and all prepared to come back and win the ball back for there team.
This week’s special mention
I would like to take this opportunity to praise the boy’s team spirit this week, regardless of what was going on during the game it was a pleasure to see all the boys (especially Miles who cheered his team on right through the match) encouraging each other even when things weren’t going to plan, keep it up boys!

Onny + Eagles V Tenbury. League Cup. League Cup 10/11/07
Results in football do not always tell the true story as Onny + eagles went down 6-2 at home to Tenbury. Yes Tenbury were to strong for the Eagles on the day, But every Onny player tried their hardest. A solid defence from the opposition kept Onny at bay, with a bit of luck we could have taken the lead, with chances going wide. Tenbury went close on a couple of occasions with Danny Bradley making a last ditch tackle to keep it all square, and Peter Sutton called into action on a number of occasions in the Onny goal. Tenbury’s pressure told in the end with two goals before half time. Onny came out in the second half still battling but Tenbury were to strong adding to their score. Not to be down hearted Cameron Fanning battled his heart out too and scored two goals late on to make the score more realistic. Well done to Tenbury, but Onny players can be proud of their performance “I am”.

"What a fantastic game" Craven Arms took an early lead playing with great enthusiasm seeing great football being played by Toby Foxall, Keiron Davies and John Shuker of Craven Arms.Onny fought back with a goal from Rory Huntbach and even with great football by George Small, Chadd Woodfield, Rhys Williams and James Milburn, when the half time whistle blew, Craven Arms were ahead by 3 oals to 1.The second half saw Liam Dovey subbed by Callum Roberts to take over in goal. Onny came back fighting in the second half, and we saw some great goal keeping by the arms goalkeeper Natty Marsden and good football by Keiron Edwards and Ben Davies.  Coreley North V Onny + Eagles. Brown Clee Cup. Game played 04/11/07
Sunday took Onny Eagles back to Coreley for the second time in two weeks. After last weeks 11-0 win. I had a feeling things might not be quite so convincing this week, and so my thoughts looked to be right, with Coreley taking an early lead, shocked into action Eagles piled on the pressure looking for an equaliser, eventually it came from Charlie Gould’s hard work in midfield, an excellent goal to equalise after several missed chances and fine saves from the Coreley Keeper, who had a great game again. Now Onny had got their act together the goals came throughout the rest of the game, with some fine runs from Danny Bradley, it was only the absence of a goal which blemished a good all-round performance. Therefore, it was left to Cam Fanning with two goals one from Joseph Williams and Another from Charlie Gould to cap off a great performance, with two fine saves from Peter Sutton late on. The score was kept to 5-1 to take Onny into the semi’s of the Brown Clee Cup

Coreley North V Onny + Eagles. Game played 28/10/07
A trip to Coreley On Sunday saw Onny Eagles come away with an excellent win. The whole team played their part in the 11-0 Victory. Eagles kept up the great work, But it was not the score, but the all round display which pleased me most. Nat and Danny putting up a very solid defence while still supporting the attacking play. Cameron Fanning bossed the midfield and scored four goals with his surging runs. Charlie Gould, Nathan, Mark Bull, Joe Williams, all chipped in with goals, and a great goal from William Thomas which was well deserved for his hard work. Great teamwork from Solomon Barker and a clean sheet from Goalkeeper Peter Sutton making two very fine saves, with an excellent display from all involved

Onny+ Eagles V Orleton Under 9,s Match Report. Game played 30/09/07
Onny + Eagles got back to winning ways on Sunday, with our first home game of the season. Onny went a goal down early on, but that shocked the team in green to up their game, with some great passing football.
Onny piled on the pressure and Charlie Gould scored his first of the season. Then the goals started to come throughout the rest of the game, with two goals from Cameron Fanning. Mark Bull scored four and Solomon Barker rounding off, a fine display with a goal.
Orleton played their part in a good all round game, but Onny were just too strong with Danny Bradley showing great power and skill to break down Orleton. Winning 8-1.

Onny+ Tigers V Coreley Under 12,s Cup Draw Match Report. Game played 26/09/07
An all round superb performance from Onny Tigers. A few minutes after kick off, Onny were awarded a penalty. Josh Cleeton took the penalty and scored. A second goal was scored later in the first half again by Josh, but Coreley made 2 - 1 by half time. During the second half Coreley scored two more goals, but in the last few agonising minutes, Miles scored a cracking goal to make it 3 - 3. The game went into extra time, but no goals were scored. This lead to penalties where Coreley won by 4 goals to 3.
This was a game Onny should have won. Well done.
Red Rovers V Onny+ Eagles Under 9,s Match Report. Game played 23/09/07
A trip to Red Rovers on Sunday left Onny a little down hearted. A hard fought first half saw Joe Williams equalise for Onny after a defensive mistake saw Rovers go 1 up. After the break an early corner for Rovers was headed into their own goal by an Onny player, 2 - 1 down Onny fought hard with Cameron Fanning battling hard for every ball, then a controversial free kick was awarded against Onny just outside the box and an excellent free kick was taken and pushed onto the bar by keeper Peter Sutton only for a Rovers player to knock it into to the goal. Onny kept pushing forward which left space for Rovers to get their forth. But, Onny should not be down hearted, they never gave up and you cannot take that away from them.

Coreley South V Onny+ Eagles Under 9,s Match Report. Game played 16/09/07
A Confident Onny Eagles under 9’s made the trip to Coreley on Sunday. A very solid defensive display from both Nathan and Danny kept the Coreley Strikers at bay, and the hard working midfield and strikers unable to break Coreley down. Going into to half time 0 - 0. After the break, Onny’s hard work paid off with a goal from Joseph Williams and a Hat trick from Mark Bull sealing victory with one own Goal from Coreley and a consolation goal for them too. A well-deserved result for the team’s hard work.
