At Onny Junior Football Club
as with many other clubs, training is seen as a vital part of a
child’s football development and a time to build up their
fitness levels.
I have found that
the secret to a successful training session is to include
variety to a players training and to make it fun, If a child is
enjoying their training and are kept busy, time for messing
around is all but eliminated which makes for a great atmosphere
for all to work in.
Here are some examples of a training
session:
1. Warm up’s
Making warm
up’s fun with lots of variations
Stretch out those leg muscles.
2. Throw in practice
Mistakes are ironed out here. This will save on foul
throws in matches |
3. Slalom Poles
Balance and manoeuvrability are helped with the
slalom poles, a big favourite with the players as you
can see from their smiley faces. |
4. Heading the Ball
Set yourself and keep your eye on
the ball
Close ball control is learnt here and is a big
advantage when taken on the football field
6. Find a friend
Passing, teamwork and making space and keeping the
ball, are all practise in this drill

7. Let’s put
it all into practise
The players
finish off with what they all love to do, play
football and see if they can beat the committed
goalkeeper
